19.05.13 ‘Illustration & Printmaking’ Workshops with Ruth Selover & Bec Carlisle 10.00am-1.00pm – The Art of Illustration – $49 per person In the first workshop, The Art of Illustration, Ruth Selover will introduce you to illustration and design using Designer Gauche. This paint was used by graphic designers to produce ‘roughs’ for advertising and commercial illustration before the days of computers. These ‘roughs’ were what the designers used to show clients before advancing to a print run. When mixed correctly, Designer Gauche dries flat and can mix to a huge array of colours using only the three primary colours, plus black and white. It is still used today for commercial illustration and fine art. There is no prerequisite for this workshop – you do not need to ‘know how to draw or paint’ – beginners are most welcome and are in fact encouraged to attend! Ruth, who is a graduate of RMIT and has been a professional graphic designer since the 1970s (as well as an educator in the arts and technology), will show you how to create something beautiful whether or not you have had any prior art experience. 2.00pm-5.00pm – Lino Cuts/ Printmaking – $49 per person In the second workshop, Lino Cuts/ Printmaking, Bec Carlisle will offer a print making demonstration and instruction using both linoleum (lino) and wood. Bring along an image or images that you would like to transfer to a lino or wood cut. These can be photos, your own drawings or paintings (from earlier in the day!), or magazine images – you will also need a photocopy of that image. Images with prominent light/ dark contrast, big bold shapes and clear detail work best! During the afternoon, Bec will teach you how to transfer your picture onto either lino or wood, and then carve out the image – building it as you go with single or multiple reductions. This workshop will offer you the opportunity to work with a new medium, to get some hints & tips on printmaking, and to be able to create your own printed piece. Book in for one or both – $89 per person for both sessions! Cost includes tea & coffee and am/pm tea and all materials (paper, pencil, paint & printmaking supplies). Places Limited – Bookings Essential!

19.04.13 – 27.05.13 ‘Art and Soul: In the beginning…’ by Bec (Peaches) Carlisle and Lauren Powell, accompanied by Mandi Renslow. Opening from 6pm Friday 19.04.13 All Welcome for drinks & nibbles! “Art and Soul: In the Beginning…” …is a collection of reduction prints and etchings, charcoal and pencil sketches and oil pastel pieces from two local artists in Eildon. This debut exhibition showcases subject matter of ethereal beings, portraits, landscapes and abstract works. Both artists, Bec (Peaches) Carlisle and Lauren Powell studied art in their youth and have since continued to experiment with different styles and mediums, drawing inspiration from the people in their lives and surroundings. They would like to invite you to view their work and their journey so far… Accompanying Bec & Lauren is Mandi Renslow. Mandi was born and bred in Gary, Indiana – the Steel capital of America – where industry meets cornfields. Raised by a mother full of creativity and the passion to share, Mandi has been painting since she was a young teen. Now living in Alexandra, but inspired by her American roots, she has fused a series of paintings of famous 50’s legends, with an abstract twist. Also on exhibition is a selection of photography by local, Paige Hortin.

15.03.13 – 15.04.13 ‘Rust in Peace’ by Ngaere Guyatt Opening from 6pm Friday 15.03.13 All Welcome for drinks & nibbles! “When the old and forgotten and functionless can become new and admired and purposeful it is a precious transformation.” ~ Ngaere Guyatt This exhibition would have to be the epitome of the current trend called ‘upcycling’ or ‘repurposing’, but for Ngaere, making something new out of something old is something she has been doing since her childhood, when she used to roam the paddocks and raid the dry river beds of rural Victoria gathering and transforming discarded weathered wood and metal objects. Accompanying Ngaere in her exhibition of assemblages of recycled materials is Liz Walker, a Sustainable Sculptor, whose art has inspired Ngaere and has influenced her work. Liz Walker will have on display small scale sculptural pieces including feathers, leaves, flowers and insects made of old roofing iron. Enjoy! Also on exhibition is a selection of art works by local, Ken Foletta.

03.03.13 Textile Workshops with Samm Menzies 10am-1pm ‘Local Colour’ and/ or 2-5pm ‘Regional Postcards’ $45 per person per session OR $80 per person for BOTH sessions. Cost includes tea & coffee and am/pm tea; and all materials also included. PRIOR BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL See ‘Home’ page for contact details ‘Local Colour’ Using locally sourced natural materials to create your own colour this workshop will introduce you to the basics of natural dyeing. We will gather windfalls from local plants and boil them up in pots to add colour to a range of ‘blonde’ fabrics and wools for you to take home to do with as you choose. Natural dyeing is a lovely, chemical free process that can easily be done at home with a few basic tools. ‘Regional Postcards’ Postcards are a snapshot of the place you’re visiting. Images reflect the landscape you see around you. A collection of little pieces of information to send to loved ones… By stitching together fabrics dyed with colour created from locally sourced natural materials, you are putting together a textile visual reminder of your surroundings. This workshop will demonstrate the process of piecing together a small textile postcard. With a needle and thread and a few basic supplies, you can take these skills away with you and create postcards from wherever you travel.

01.02.13 – 11.03.13 ‘Natural Selection’ by Samm Menzies Opening from 6pm Friday 01.02.13 All Welcome for drinks & nibbles! Reflecting the artistic growth of the artist over a number of years, this exhibition demonstrates the artist’s transition from her generalised use of natural dyes into a more defined interest in the ‘vessel’ as her subject. A continued resistance to to the use of chemical processes for adding colour to textile, and the use of recycled materials in the small soft sculptures, is the artist’s attempt to do her “environmental bit”!
